This weekend we went camping. This was my first official camping trip as an adult. I was so excited to spend this much needed time away with my family, and there was a BEACH within walking distance. I couldn’t wait to lay on a towel and soak up all of those beautiful warm sun rays. Guess what. It rained. Wait a minute, no, it poured, for probably 24 hours straight.
We did walk to the beach before the rain came crashing down. Jaxon was so excited to be at the beach. He was looking forward to this moment for days.
Once we got back to the camp site, we all sat around and talked.
Laughed at the silly comments made by the children.
And cuddled our sweet little blessings.
Friday night even got a bit stormy. So picture this, we’re in a tent and there are millions of trees looking down on us. I kept Marty awake by having him try to check the forecast on his phone, just in case there was a tornado headed our way. There we lay during the wee hours, both with a Blackberry in hand, trying to see if we will make it to the next day. Let me clarify, Marty wasn’t really worried, but I was. Of course, no reception. So, I just stayed awake until it was all over, which was the morning. Needless to say, I was in a mad rush to get coffee at 6:30 and couldn’t get my hands on any.
Anyhow, we made it to Saturday morning without even a branch hitting our tent. Did I mention, Marty’s whole family was with us? Well, they were. During the rain, Marty’s mom, sister, and I took the kids to a museum about 20 minutes away. This got us out of the rain, and Jaxon had a blast.
When we walked out of the museum the rain had stopped. What a relief. We were so sick of the mud, and running back and forth from tents and restrooms. Finally, we could actually eat outside at a picnic table.
This huge relief reminded me of the relief that God can give us. Sometimes in life it rains a little, and sometimes it pours a lot. But, eventually with the help of God, the sun can and will come out. He does wonders by lifting a weight off of our shoulders or just being there to comfort us. Turning to him in a difficult situation is the only answer. At times, He gives me this peace that I can’t explain other than, it’s just Him.
We were finally able to go to the beach Saturday afternoon.
Carter chilled in his stroller.
And, eventually drifted off to sleep.
The trip didn’t go exactly as planned, but we made the most of it, and had a great time creating memories that will last a lifetime.
