It’s A Wrap

Remember this post about babywearing? The one where the Snugli paralyzed me for days. I’ve been meaning to add this post for well over a month now. I had convinced myself that a Babyhawk was in my near future, all $90 of cute fabric. That same weekend, we had a 4th of July party to attend. One of my relatives was using a ring sling and also had some yards of fabric in the car which she uses to wear her baby as well. She let me try them both, and I was amazed by how well the weight was distributed.

Let me back up one moment. A reader commented on that post and gave me some sites to look at on how to make this wrap. I guess I wouldn’t call it “making.” Basically, I went to the store and bought 5 yards of fabric and cut it in half. I’m not that talented.

Back to the miracle relative who let me try out her wraps. I decided I was going to try out the no sew wrap first. A few days later, I went to the fabric store and got some material. It cost me only about $20. I visited this siteĀ http://www.wearyourbaby.com/Default.aspx?tabid=121 on how to make it and this oneĀ http://magiccityslingers.wordpress.com/why-babywear/babywearing-basics/ on how to wrap it.

I have been pleased with getting by with this wrap for the moment. I have used it many times, and it really comes in handy. My only complaint is that it takes a little time to get the baby in the wrap. It’s not really an in and out way to wear your baby. I still quite frequently jump on Etsy and drool over all of the different slings and carriers that I would love to have. I will purchase one someday when I finally decide which one I want. But for the moment, I at least have a way to tote my little guy around.

Cute! I made my own stretchy wrap with fabric from Joann’s, too, and I love it. I’m 5 mos. pregnant now, and the wrap is the ONLY comfortable way to wear my 20-mo. old son - everything else makes my back hurt!
